Questions people ask
Who can use it?
Anyone helping an older person claim: a son or daughter, a husband, wife or partner, another relative or a friend. People claiming for themselves use it too.
Can't I just fill in the form myself?
Yes. Claiming is free, and anyone can fill in the form. We're for people who would rather not spend hours working out what to write.
Does it work for the paper form and the online form?
Yes. Your answers are laid out section by section, so you can copy them onto the paper form or into the online one. If you act for them as an appointee or attorney, we tell you which form to use.
What if they are nearing the end of life?
There is a faster way to claim, and we help with it for free. Run the check above and we'll show you what to do.
What happens to the information I give you?
It is stored securely in the UK, used only to write your claim, and deleted 90 days after you send it, or sooner if you ask. It is never used for advertising. See our privacy notice.
What if the claim is turned down?
You can ask DWP to look again within one month of the decision. We write that letter for you, at no extra cost.
Do you cover Scotland or Northern Ireland?
Not yet. We cover England and Wales.
